Product Swap of the Week: Magic Spoon Cereal

Did you know?

The average American consumes 160 bowls of cereal a year. Most of which contain processed grains & seed oils and anywhere from 10 grams to 45 grams of sugar!

That's why we're swapping out Cocoa Puffs for Magic Spoon Cereal for this week's product swap out!

WHY COCOA PUFFS ARE NO GOOD:

This is a cereal many of us grew up loving and if our parents wouldn’t allow it, we’d find a way to sneak it in! But with one scan of the ingredients list it’s apparent what an inflammatory sugar bomb this is!

The first ingredient is corn (which comes from an inflammatory GMO source) followed by sugar (a whopping 9 grams per 3/4 cups and most people will consume at least 2-3 servings = 27 grams; i.e. a whole days worth). And if you look closely, you’ll see that sugar is listed four times under different aliases (sugar, fructose, corn syrup and refiner’s syrup), meaning that it’s the most prominent ingredient in the whole list. You’ll also notice that the cacao flavoring is highly processed and that there are ZERO beneficial nutrients like protein, fiber or healthy fats.

Ingredients: Whole Grain Corn, Sugar, Corn Meal, Corn Syrup, Cocoa Processed with Alkali, Canola Oil, Fructose, Salt, Caramel Color, Refiner’s Syrup, Baking Soda, Natural Flavor.

This is the not the kind of breakfast children should reach for to fuel their body and brain for school. Eating this kind of cereal on an empty stomach will create a major insulin spike and set you up for a blood sugar rollercoaster that will be hard to come back from (think mood swings, hunger pangs, sugar cravings and lethargy). Eat this way every day and you're increasing your chances of becoming insulin resistant which can lead to a whole host of imbalances, symptoms and more serious side effects.

Instead, consider Magic Spoon Cereal!

WHY WE LOVE MAGIC SPOON CEREAL:

* 11grams of complete protein per bowl *

* 3 grams of net carbs *

* 0 grams of sugar! *

It’s got a sweet and satisfying taste & plays on the cereal flavors we grew up with (cocoa, fruity, frosted, cinnamon) so it’s a hit with young kids as well.  Made with whey protein, coconut oil, tapioca and chicory root fiber and sweetened with 0 glycemic monk fruit. It’s grain & gluten-free too so great for people with sensitivities!

 When attempting to keep your hormones balanced, it’s also important to keep blood sugar levels stable with fat, fiber and protein. Magic spoon has all three and is also free from inflammatory ingredients like GMO corn, processed sugar and industrial seed oils

 Pro-Tip: Enjoy your bowl of Magic Spoon with some of our favorite @malkorganics vanilla cashew or almond milk to add in some extra healthy fats and protein! Allergic to nuts? Try @malibumylk’s flaxseed milk!
